Digoxin toxicity

decided it needed page on its own

Headline
Etiology acute:
chronic: usually due to renal impairment on background of chronic digoxin use
Epidemiology
Clinical presentation CNS: arrhythmias
GI: N+V, diarrhoea
CNS: confusion, visual disturbance
Pathogenesis
Diagnostic investigations ECG - think SVT + slow ventricular response:
- frequent ectopics
- downsloping ST depression, T wave flattening/inversion
Management Digifabs is definitive - digoxin levels will be falsely elevated for weeks afterward
Mg as adjunct

predisposing factors:

  • hypoxia
  • hypokalaemia
