Changes in inflammation

role of macrophages

neutrophils (see White blood cells)

  1. release of cytokines e.g. IL-1 in an inflamed tissue
  2. Margination: adhesion molecules expressed on endothelial cells → neutrophils stick to capillary and venule walls
  3. intercellular attachments between endothelial cells loosen → neutrophils enter via diapedesis
  4. chemotaxis toward inflamed area
