| Investigations | Anti-HAV IgM = diagnostic Past infection: anti-HA |
| Management | Unvaccinated + recent exposure: vaccine +/- Normal immunoglobulin otherwise supportive as for any liver failure |
public health
- vaccination for travellers to high-risk areas (unless age <1 year)
- You get normal immunoglobulin if you are a close contact of confirmed cases AND:
- chronic liver disease
- HIV
- immunosuppressed, OR
- age >50
