1st 20 weeks: congenital varicella

30% mortality
Clinical presentation:

  • segmental skin loss
    • depressed and pigmented in a dermatomal distribution
  • limb hypoplasia
  • ocular defects:
    • cataracts, chorioretinitis
    • Horner syndrome
    • microphthalmos
    • nystagmus
  • ↓ birth weight
  • CNS abnormalities: seizures, microcephaly

2nd/3rd trimesters: neonatal herpes zoster

  • vesicular eruptions
  • complications of disseminated disaese

7 days before to 7 days after delivery
