- OPA proteins - promote entry of bacteria into cells - much variance in expression
Diagnostic investigations First catch NAAT
➥ Vulvovaginal/urethral ± rectal swab
➥ Urethral microscopy: intracellular cocci
Management BASHH: ceftriaxone 500mg IM or azithromycin 1g PO as single dose
Contact notification: with symptomatic urethritis, 2/52 before s/s or last sexual partner
➥ else: 3/12 before dx
➥ Offer STI screen!
➥ facilitates HIV transmission
