Nasal fractures
Are you looking for Facial injury?
| Treat this as a head/c-spine injury, THEN think about the face | |
|---|---|
| History | - Historic nasal injury/deformity - Meds history should include anticoagulation - Any persistent nasal discharge since the injury – this symptom may indicate a nasoethmoid injury with CSF leak |
| Examination | Rule out - Septal haematoma → risk of septal necrosis - CSF leak? |
| Diagnostic investigations | XR nasal bones have poor sens/spec... either you're worried about the rest of the face, or you've made a clinical diagnosis |
| Differentials | |
| Immediate management | Resuscitation: Trauma assessment as normal. Stable patient: delayed MUA may be appropriate (no evidence to support immediate MUA) - Septal haematoma requires I+D |
