Elbow injury
common patterns of injury
- Radial head/neck → posterior fat pad in adults
- Supracondylar fractures of the humerus (more common in children)
- Dislocation of radial head
dislocation - 50-60% of dislocations
- risk of brachial artery injury
- Olecranon and epicondyles form an equilateral triangle
- undisturbed in Supracondylar fractures of the humerus
- distorted in elbow dislocation
tendinopathies
💅🏽 Extensor tendinopathy = lateral epicondylitis = tennis elbow
Pain on resisted wrist EXTENSION with pronated forearm
💪🏽 Flexor tendinopathy = medical epicondylitis = golfers elbow
Pain on resisted wrist FLEXION with supinated forearm
pulled elbows
- mechanism: pulled arm, as the name suggests
- anatomy: radial head slips out from under annular ligament
- patient demographic: 1-3 years. beyond that age range, consider alt diagnoses.
- clinical presentation: pain on pronation + supination
