Branch of sciatic nerve (L4-S3)
passes through Popliteal fossa
supply
- Motor:
- Muscles of posterior leg
- intrinsic muscles in sole of foot
- Sensory:
- skin on the posterolateral side of the lower half of the leg → via Sural nerve
- medial side of the ankle, foot, and little toe
- sole of the foot and toes
injury
- loss of plantarflexion
- loss of flexion of toes
- weakened inversion
