  • continuation of extraperitoneal fascia
  • continuous with transversalis fascia

Contents of femoral sheath

  • femoral artery
  • femoral vein
  • lymphatics - contained in femoral canal

    femoral canal lies at medial edge of femoral sheath

Femoral nerve does NOT lie in the femoral sheath!

femoral canal + ring

Femoral canal opening i.e. femoral ring is site for femoral hernias
lots of potential space - allows femoral vein to expand

  • deep inguinal lymph nodes
  • lymphatic vessels

boundaries:

  • anterior: inguinal ligament
  • posterior: pectineal ligament
  • medial: lacunar ligament
  • lateral: femoral vein
