Femoral nerve

course and branches

  • Anterior rami L2-4
  • Descends through psoas major and emerges at lateral border
  • Runs over surface of iliacus deep to iliacus fascia
  • pass posterior to inguinal ligament at midpoint lateral to femoral artery
  • Divides into branches upon entering thigh

branches

  • medial and intermediate cutaneous nerve - sensory to anterior thigh
  • saphenous nerve - sensory to medial leg

  • Anterior thigh
  • medial side of the leg
  • medial side of the ankle
