external laryngeal nerve

branch of superior laryngeal nerve - divides at hyoid
course: descends along lateral wall of pharynx, pierces inferior constrictor
supply: cricothyroid

recurrent laryngeal nerve

Branch of Vagus nerve
left - originates in thorax
right - originates in root of neck
supply:
- sensory to the laryngeal cavity below the level of the vocal folds
- motor to all intrinsic muscles of the larynx except for the cricothyroid (external laryngeal nerve)
