Beneath skull base between pharynx and mandible:
- lateral: condylar process, ramus of mandible
- medial: lateral pterygoid plate, tensor veli palatine, levator veli palatine, superior constrictor muscles
- anterior: posterior border of maxillary sinus
- posterior: carotid sheath
- roof: greater wing of sphenoid bone
- floor: medial pterygoid muscle
