Layers around the kidney
Deep to superficial:
- fibrous capsule
- perirenal fat
- Renal fascia
- pararenal fat
A ruptured abscess, perinephric pus etc. will be contained within the renal fascia
Attached at renal vessels and ureter - prevents spread of pus to contralateral side
