3. adjacent to head of pancreas
2nd/descending part - lower border of L3
1. anterior relation = transverse colon
2. posterior relation = right kidney
3rd/inferior part - at level of L3
1. crosses IVC, aorta, vertebral column
2. crossed anteriorly by SMA/SMV
3. inferior to pancreas
4th/ascending part - L of aorta to upper border of L2
